4to. Grey cloth w/embossed title. 320pp. 138 full colour plates, as well as a number of in-text illustrations and six full-page, colour details taken from Johns’ paintings. Slightly cocked but otherwise in near-fine condition. No other faults to mention. First hardcover edition, printed on the occasion of Jasper Johns’ exhibition Gray, held at the Arts Institute of Chicago. The exhibition focused on Johns’ use of Gray throughout his oeuvre, showing 130 works that highlight this. The book’s subject is the same. Essays exploring the subject are provided by Rondeau, Druick, Shiff, Rose, Rosenthal, Keegan and Lister. As thorough a work on this particular aspect of the artist’s career that you are likely to find. Scarce and in excellent condition.
