Small 8vo., contemporary soft vellum (endpapers recently replaced), pp. , 332, , [1 blank]. Important treatise on medicine, anatomy and surgery in its third edition (first published in 1672). Pages heavily browned and foxed, minor signs of worm damage, preliminary and trailing ff. chipped at edges with no loss of printed material, dark stain top edge corner; otherwise good and complete, binding well preserved. Bernardino Genga (1620-1690) was a scholar of Classical medical texts, editing several works of Hippocrates. He also had a great interest in the preparation of anatomical specimens as well as the anatomy of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture. These interests led to his work at the French Academy in Rome, where he taught anatomy to artists. The Anatomia chiurgica was a successful textbook for surgeons that went through many editions.
