Fine binding in half green leather, spines divided into five compartments with gilt lettering and decoration, volumes numbered VII-VIII in Roman numerals on the spines (numbered according to their position in Jardine’s ornithological series as a whole; this forms a complete 2-volume set of the ‘Birds of Western Africa’ only), spines slightly faded although the binding is otherwise in excellent condition, marbled paper on boards and end papers. The leaves between pp. xiii and xiv and pp. xv and xvi have been torn down the middle and repaired with tape. The pages are otherwise clean, with a minor foxing. Vol. 1 contains a ‘Memoir of Bruce’ and vol. 2 a ‘Memoir of Le Vaillant’ both by Andrew Crichton. The lettering on the spines reads: ‘Naturalist’s Library: Ornithology: Vol. [number in Roman numerals]’.
