Small 8vo., half vellum with gilt-lettered red leather label to spine, pp. XXXVII, , 360, with 18 copper-engraved plates (2 of which are folding). Block of 16 plates detached, leaving 1 plate still adhered to front board, binding bumped and rubbed; otherwise good. Rare early nineteenth-century guidebook to Venice, an itinerary for 8 days (with an alternative 4-day itinerary outlined at the back of the volume), illustrated with maps and views, and two plates commemorating the Venetian sculptor Antonio Canova. Some of the engravings, incised by Felice Zuliani, are based on designs by the prominent Venetian painter and neoclassicist Giuseppe Borsato. Mentioned in the preface is a second volume with a history of Venice. This refers to the Compendio della storia veneta diviso in otto epoche dalla origine di Venezia nell’anno 421 sino alla caduta della repubblica nell’anno 1797, published in 1826 (printed by Francesco Andreola). Although this is not included here, the 8-day itinerary is complete. Text in Italian.
