Acominatus Nicetas, usually called Nicetas Choniates (1155-1217) was a Greek Byzantine government official and historian known best for his history of the Eastern Roman Empire from 1118 to 1207. This bilingual Greco-Latin edition is based on the sixteenth-century translation by the German humanist Hieronymus Wolf and edited by the French jurisconsultant Charles Annibal Fabrot. It can be placed alongside the monumental Corpus Byzantinae Historiae, the first volume of which appeared in 1648 and was also issued by the royal press, as part of the endeavor of French intellectuals to collectively redact and publish a corpus of early writings on the Byzantine Empire in Greek with the Latin translation. Text in Medieval Greek and Latin.
