Fine binding in half green leather, spine divided into five compartments with gilt lettering and decoration, volume numbered VII in Roman numerals on the spine (numbered according to its position in Jardine’s ‘Mammalia’ series as opposed to the Naturalist’s Library as a whole), spine slightly faded, slight foxing to preliminary and trailing pages, although the volume is otherwise in very good condition. Marbled paper on boards and end papers. Complete with illustrations: 34 hand-coloured plates, 1 b/w title page, 1 b/w frontispiece portrait (of Ulysses Aldrovandi). The lettering on the spine reads: ‘Naturalist’s Library: Mammalia: Vol. [number in Roman numerals]’.
