Small 8vo., contemporary vellum binding, vellum extending and turned in over foredge, endbands, pp. 430 + 1 blank. Probably the first edition of this vituperative anti-papist pamphlet, railing against, in particular, the papacy of Alessandro VII (Fabio Chigi). Some light worming, shelfwear and stains/foxing to pages and binding but otherwise a very good copy. Gregorio Leti (1630-1701) was an Italian historian and satirist from Milan, known for his works ridiculing and lambasting the Catholic Church, in particular the papacy; all of his works were put on the Index of Prohibited Books. A convert to Protestantism, he lived in England, France and Amsterdam. Text in Italian.
