Fine binding in half green leather, spine divided into five compartments with gilt lettering and decoration, volume numbered I in Roman numerals on the spine (numbered according to its position in Jardine’s ‘Mammalia’ series as opposed to the Naturalist’s Library as a whole), spine slightly faded, slight foxing to pages, although the volume is otherwise in very good condition, marbled paper on boards and end papers. Complete with illustrations: 30 hand-coloured plates, 1 hand-coloured title page, 1 b/w portrait (of George Louis le Clerc Buffon). Errata slip. The lettering on the spine reads: ‘Naturalist’s Library: Mammalia: Vol. [number in Roman numerals]’.
