Fine binding in half green leather, spine divided into five compartments with gilt lettering and decoration, volume numbered V in Roman numerals on the spine (numbered according to its position in Jardine’s entomological series as opposed to the Naturalist’s Library as a whole), spine slightly faded, plates missing their protective sheets (and thus foxing on the pages opposite), but the volume is otherwise in excellent condition, marbled paper on boards and end papers. Complete with illustrations: 36 hand-coloured plates, 1 title page, 1 b/w portrait (of Chevalier de Lamarck); the title page is engraved after a drawing by John Hope Stewart, a well-known and important illustrator in his day who contributed to a number of volumes in this series. The lettering on the spine reads: ‘Naturalist’s Library: Entomology: Vol. [number in Roman numerals]’.
