Ex libris with b/w Annie French bookplate probably dating to the early twentieth century. Bound in publisher’s green cloth with gilt lettering and ornamentation adapted from Etruscan designs to spine and front boards. Boards bordered with embossed ‘key’ motif. Deckle edges. Mild foxing to opening and closing pages, more pronounced foxing to title pages, and foxing to folding map at end of vol. 2. First published in 1848, George Dennis’s Cities and Cemeteries of Etruria is considered the most important and comprehensive account of Etruscan civilization published in the English language in the nineteenth century. The third edition is a direct reprint of the second revised and expanded edition of 1878. Many of the engravings contained in the volumes were drawn by Dennis himself.
