[ANON], Costumi di Roma e dei contorni, Lithographie Santarelli, 1846
[ANON], A. Bertini. (illustrator). Costumi di Roma e dei contorni. Roma, 1846. 32mo (3.5 x 4.5 inches), hand colored vignette title page depicting “Saltarello”, a traditional dance, 30 hand colored plates bound concertina-style in its original red cloth boards within a green cloth slipcase. Each plate shows a traditional character defined by their profession or provenance, such as the salad vendor, the woodcutter or the woman from Tivoli. Spine faded, showing how long it has not been removed from the slipcase, which is sparsely rubbed and has a contemporary label from the “Lithographie Santarelli” in Rome, where it was probably originally produced and sold. The inside is almost immaculate. Very rare, earliest known edition of this work.
